Rod and his specialist associates supply the INTERNATIONAL FILM and TV Industries and other creative businesses with a range of services in design and construction. Our specialities include the creation of SCULPTURE, SETS, ROCKS and CAVES, TREES, ARCHITECTURE, ARMOUR, MODEL MAKING and SPECIAL EFFECTS.
We can offer an optional full design, manufacturing and installation service, from initial concept to finished product. We are very happy to work with other designers and help to put their designs into production with our specialist knowledge of manufacturing technologies.
We pioneered and developed the use of SPRAYED POLYURETHANE resins and FOAMS within the FILM INDUSTRY, starting with 650 suits of ARMOUR for Ridley Scott’s GLADIATOR. Since then we have engaged in research and development into a very wide range of materials and applications. We work rapidly and efficiently and our prices are competitive.
Our offices and design studios are in ROSS ON WYE, HEREFORDSHIRE. From here we are very well positioned to travel easily to all parts of ENGLAND, WALES and further afield. We have a very experienced freelance workforce, most of whom have worked with us on numerous productions. Their wide range of skills enables us to draw on their particular talents for each chosen project.
We have several manufacturing bases, suitable for different types of projects.
We are also happy to work from FILM STUDIOS or other locations in the UK or elsewhere.
ROD VASS
ROD studied FINE ART in NEWCASTLE and SUNDERLAND, then worked as an ARCHAEOLOGICAL ARTIST at NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY. He moved to LONDON to pursue a career in ART. He exhibited and sold PAINTINGS and created ALBUM SLEEVE ART, POSTERS, PRODUCT DESIGN, T-SHIRT DESIGNS, and designed for VIDEOS and PHOTOGRAPHY for a variety of MUSIC BUSINESS clients.
Rod established himself as an ILLUSTRATOR and DESIGNER, represented in LONDON and NEW YORK, specializing in ADVERTISING, PUBLISHING and PRODUCTS. He also created small and large scale sculptures for HOLOGRAMS ( including a life size MICHELIN MAN) and designs for retail display as well as co creating (as IMAGINEERING) COSTUMES and ARMOUR for BBC DOCTOR WHO, SHAKESPEARE, BLACK ADDER and many others.
Rod designed THUNDERBIRDS and the WORLD OF GERRY ANDERSON EXHIBITION. Working with MARIA KEANE, he also created Illustrations and concepts for many LICENSED CHARACTERS including WARNER BROS, DISNEY, MARVEL and DC. He established ARMORDILLO LTD. with MICHAELA ELLIOTT-VASS, specializing in DESIGN and CONSTRUCTION for FILM TV and other CREATIVE INDUSTRIES. They have a sister company VON VASS ORIGINALS creating LASER CUT card products.
THE TEAM
Our workforce are primarily freelance specialists in their fields, whose skills we can draw on to suit each particular job.
MICHAELA ELLIOTT-VASS is an experienced designer with highly developed computer and technical skills. She also runs our office.
LOUIS VASS has specialist 3D computer and hands on SCULPTURE skills and is particularly adept at Z BRUSH and related sculpture programmes, which we make regular use of.
LAURA MARTIN has multi talented artistic skills with an extensive knowledge of materials.
POD FARLOWE has worked with us on numerous projects and is another multi talented artist and maker.
ROSI FLOOD is a highly skilled and experienced costume maker with invaluable costume breakdown skills.
ADAM DAFFURN has offered us his highly creative skills over many years .
DAN FALL, IAN RIGDEN, STEVE MATTHEWS, ANDREW RIGDEN, NICK LOWNE, STEVE BOX, JOHN MANN, HELEN SMITH, MICHAEL BLACKWELL, DAVID KIFF, DIRK JAN DRIESSEN, JOHN BIGGINS, have provided great service in many areas of construction and installation.
